About Activity

The Gran Paradiso massif Italy’s only entirely domestic 4,000 m peak is home to one of the country’s wildest and most rewarding three-day circuits. Encircling the massif through three valleys (Cogne, Valsavarenche, Rhêmes), this route offers high passes, permanent snowfields, ibex at close range, and the kind of mountain silence that recalibrates everything.

Day 1 – Cogne to Rifugio Vittorio Sella (~14 km, +1,150 m): We leave Cogne early and follow se the Valnontey valley deep into the Gran Paradiso National Park. The path climbs steadily through alder forest and alpine meadows to Rifugio Vittorio Sella (2,584 m), one of Italy’s most iconic mountain huts. Afternoon: optional ascent toward the Colle della Tersiva for views of the main glacier face.

Day 2 – Rifugio Sella to Pont via Colle Lauson (~18 km, +1,050 m / -1,400 m): The technical crux of the circuit. We cross Colle di Entrelor (3,002 m) in the morning, a sustained climb on mixed terrain with possible late-season snow. Descent into Valsavarenche to Pont for lunch. Afternoon climb to Rifugio Federico Chabod (2,710 m) perched above the Aosta valley with a direct view of the Gran Paradiso summit pyramid.

Day 3 – Rifugio Chabod to Cogne via Col Fenêtre (~15 km, +650 m / -1,250 m): A gentler final day across the Rhêmes valley shoulder, dropping back into Cogne via the Valnontey. Ibex sightings on this section are nearly guaranteed. We finish in time for a celebratory lunch in the village.
