A perfect introduction to Italy’s most iconic coastal trail. We start at dawn from the old village of Monterosso al Mare and follow the Sentiero Azzurro (Blue Trail, CAI 592) southward along the cliff edge, weaving through vineyards, terraced gardens, and wild Mediterranean scrub. After roughly 3.5 km and 230 m of ascent, the path crests a ridge before dropping into the pastel-colored harbor of Vernazza, one of the most photographed villages in Europe.
The pace is relaxed: we stop for photos, to catch our breath, and to eat. After a shared lunch we return to Monterosso. No technical skills required.
