The Grignetta (2,177 m) is Leccoβs landmark mountain and one of the great traditional rock climbing arenas of the Alps. Its north-facing walls of compact grey limestone have trained generations of alpinists β Cassin, Bonatti, and Mauri all cut their teeth here. The North Ridge route we follow is a 10-pitch classic that has stood the test of time for its sustained quality, exposure, and magnificent views over Lake Como and the Lecco plains.
We meet at 5:30 AM at Piani Resinelli to be at the base of the route by 7:00 AM. The approach (~45 min) gains 300 m on a marked path. The route itself totals ~350 m of climbing, with pitches alternating between airy ridgeline climbing and short technical cruxes. The hardest pitch tops out at 6a+ on good positive holds with solid gear placement.
Summit by early afternoon; descent via the southwest normal route (no rappelling required). Down at the car by 17:00. Total commitment: ~11β12 hours car-to-car.
This event requires: prior multi-pitch trad or sport experience, ability to lead/second at minimum 5c, comfort with exposed terrain and long mountain days. You will be assessed at sign-up.
